THE
AERONAUTICAL PARK OF CATALUNYA IN
EL PRAT DE LLOBREGAT
In correspondence with the historical role of El Prat de Llobregat, as the municipality where three aerodromes that were essential for the development of aviation in Catalonia were established, on April 5th 2013, the Foundation signed a cooperation agreement with AENA Aeropuertos S.A., whereby the FPAC could use, for the restoration of aeronautical heritage, the workshop of the Aeronautical Cultural Center of Barcelona-El Prat Airport (CCA).
In May 2016, the Foundation held an exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the first El Prat aerodrome and of Catalonia's aeronautical development ,in the main hall of the CCA.
After a first extension, the exhibition had been growing until being granted permanent status and becoming part of the airport's educational visits program.
According to the locality, the availability of space and the characteristics of the CCA building, the exhibition displays a selection of the PAC collections shown at CCA and is focused on the historical, technological, and social impact of aeronautical development:
The beginning and first decades of aviation in Catalonia and its evolution until the military uprising and the war of 1936 resulted in the destruction of the Catalonian civil aeronautical network.
The development of Commercial aviation since 1939.
The flight of unpowered and other forms of gliding.
The development of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport
The training of aircraft maintenance technicians.
The CCA Building is located at the corner of Pepa Colomer Avenue and Josep Carreras de Xeus Street, in front of the airport's Corporate Flight Terminal.
The Aeronautical Park of Catalonia Foundation collaborates with Illa de Banyols Higher Institute to train aircraft maintenance technicians through an agreement with the Generalitat of Catalonia Department of Education.
